Chili Cookoff and Fellowship

It’s the fourth Wednesday of the month again, a time for food and fellowship at the Lake City Campus. We are having a coordinated chili dinner and people are invited to cook or bring their favorite chili, and/or side dishes like corn bread and other chili accompanying favorites to share. I suppose someone could bring a vegetable too. You can RSVP on THE CITY and let us know what you’re bringing…

“… breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”

If you’re new to Mars Hill and haven’t plugged in beyond Sunday services, it’s a great way to break the ice with some hot chili and meet some of our church family. Mars Hill meets in homes throughout the week living life together, and this is simply one expression of lives lived together for the glory of god. For our regulars, it’s a chance to catch up with friends and share a meal together for God’s glory. See you there.

Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! – 2 Corinthians 9:15

‘Tis the season for holiday gift giving and receiving. So, it only seems fitting to preach a short Christmas series on Christmas giving.
In this two-week series we will examine how, at the time of his birth, Jesus Christ gave up the riches of heaven to live in poverty on the earth. We will examine how Jesus did so to generously give us gracious gifts, including forgiveness of sin, reconciliation with God, indwelling of the Holy Spirit, newness of life, ministry opportunity to help others in need, and an eternal life in his lavish kingdom.
In addition, we will examine how Christians are given the wonderful opportunity to be generous, cheerful, and gracious gift-givers as a demonstration of their understanding of and appreciation for Jesus. Simply, because our God is a generous giver, we are invited to share in his joy by being generous givers as well. I will also explain in detail a very large gift that has been received by Mars Hill Church and the ways in which we plan on stewarding it well.
All of this and more will be covered on two Sundays (December 14 and 21) and in our Community Groups as we examine 2 Corinthians 8–9. As we study, you will meet Christians who were struggling under the weight of an economic recession much like our own. Despite their poverty, they lived simply and gave generously so that needy people were helped and the evangelistic work of the gospel flourished. As a result, their example, from which we can learn, has been forever recorded in the pages of Scripture.
